We haven’t heard much from Joaquin Phoenix since his 2010 career-meltdown mockumentary I’m Still Here, but color us interested in this upcoming collaboration with director Spike Jonze. Her is a sci-fi romance in which Phoenix falls in love with a new operating system “designed to meet his every need.” The film has an impressive cast besides Phoenix, too, including roles for Rooney Mara, Samantha Morton, Olivia Wilde, and Amy Adams.
Indiewire noticed a synopsis posted at production company Annapurna Pictures, but it appears to have been taken down. We’ve reproduced it below:
In the not so distant future, Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix), a lonely writer purchases a newly developed operating system designed to meet the user’s every needs. To Theodore’s surprise, a romantic relationship develops between him and his operating system. This unconventional love story blends science fiction and romance in a sweet tale that explores the nature of love and the ways that technology isolates and connects us all.
The movie’s new title has been confirmed by The Film Stage, which also got hold of the earlier sales poster you see above. Her is set for release next year and will be Jonze’s first solo screenplay after working with Dave Eggers on 2009’s Where The Wild Things Are.
